I trained as a geologist and worked in the oil industry for a number of years but soon realised this was not for me. My dream was to be a photographer.
More specifically, I dreamed of becoming a stockphotographer. Making a living as a stockphotographer requires a breaking of a vicious circle. With no money a photographer can generate no stock photos. With no stock photos a stockphotographer makes no money!
In order to generate some money to invest in images I worked sometimes as a motorcycle despatch rider, sometimes in a photographic laboratory and then in a photographic library (as stock agencies are sometimes called).
After a while I started to do commission work for various publishers and travel companies until finally I had generated enough stock photos to survive as a standalone stock photographer. My work is represented by such industry giants as Getty as well as smaller and more agile agencies.
